About Soi Romanee

Turn one corner off Thalang Road and you land on Soi Romanee, a short lane of shophouses each painted a different color, often called the most photographed street in the old center. You can walk the whole thing in a few minutes and still stay half an hour, because someone is always posing at the next door.

The past is less photogenic than the paint suggests: the lane was Phuket Town's red-light district, where Chinese miners spent what they earned in the tin mines. Today the address is home to cafés, souvenir shops and small guesthouses, a good base for anyone who wants to sleep in the historic part of the island.
