Kata and Kata Noi Beaches

Two neighboring bays split by a headland: Kata, about 1.5 km long, with restaurants and the islet of Koh Pu out front; Kata Noi, smaller, quieter and with few hotels.

About Kata and Kata Noi Beaches

Kata has about 1.5 km of soft sand and, in high season, shallow water for a good stretch, which makes it one of the favorite beaches of families. A good part of the waterfront is taken up by a resort, so public access is at the two ends. Opposite the southern corner, the islet of Koh Pu becomes a silhouette at the end of the afternoon. From June to November the waves grow, and the beach gets surf lessons and board rentals.

Past a rocky headland, Kata Noi is the smaller, quieter sister: even finer, paler sand, few hotels on the shore and hardly anything beyond the beach. Both are usually good for swimming from December to April; outside that period, the sea gets rough and the currents become dangerous.
