About Gold Souk
Window after window, each fuller than the last: the Gold Souk brings together more than 380 traders, most of them jewelers. Besides gold, there is platinum, silver, bars, loose diamonds and colored stones, all a few steps from the Creek.
The market began informally, in the early 20th century, with stalls at the water's edge. It grew in the 1940s, when free trade drew merchants from India and Iran, and again after the Creek was dredged in 1963. Even if you do not buy a gram, walk through: it is Deira working at full steam.
