About Ximending

Ximending has lived on shopping and entertainment since the 1930s, and almost a century later it still takes the job seriously. This is not a neighborhood to visit with a checklist: the fun is wandering aimlessly, stepping into a shop out of curiosity, trying something at a counter and sitting down when your feet ask for it.

It works best as a bridge between the historical part of the day and dinner. After the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall and Longshan Temple, you can spend the late afternoon here and then head to Ningxia Night Market, in Datong, where choosing which line to join becomes the main event of the evening.
